SEM_0014 In the course of the 27th session of the Human Rights Council, Defence for Children International (DCI) is to organize two side-events: "Child Rights Besieged in the Middle East" on 22 September and "Child Rights Defenders – the fatal consequences" on 24 September. The first shall be held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, and will discuss the situation of children in conflict zones, particularly the Middle East, and look into ways of preventing further child rights violations. The second, taking place at the same venue, will focus on risks and challenges of Child Rights Defenders, particularly in conflict stricken areas, with the aim to raise awareness, strengthen cooperation and solidarity, and reinforce protection and security. In particular, the event will pay tribute to child rights advocate, Mr. Hashem Khader Abu Maria, from DCI – Palestine, who was killed by Israeli forces in July while peacefully participating in a solidarity march with Gaza.
