DCI is an independent non-governmental organisation set up during the International Year of the Child (1979) to ensure on-going, practical, systematic and concerted international action specially directed towards promoting and protecting the rights of the child.

How to Join DCI's Network

Conditions to Become a Member of DCI

  • The candidate section must have at least 2/3 majority in the Assembly of Associates.
  • The candidate section must have the approval of the statute by the International Executive Council.
  • The candidate section must have a minimum staff of ten (10) people.
  • The candidate section must support and promote the spirit and content of the objectives of DCI.
  • The candidate section must accept and promote the Declaration on the Rights of the Child, the UN’s Convention on the Rights of the Child and its optional protocols.
  • The candidate section must promise to promote the activities of the movement through active participation in the projects carried out by the organization.
  • The candidate section must contribute financially towards the development of the movement with the regular payment of ordinary and extraordinary fees.
  • The candidate section must adopt the constitution of a national association, that complies with the institutional principles and guidelines, and has the sole purpose of striving for the objectives of DCI.
  • The candidate section must comply with policies and pre-approved actions during one year.
  • The International Executive Council’s duty is to submit to the International General Assembly and arguing in support of the application for the full admission of a national section to the international movement.
  • The International Executive Council must provide detailed information about the fulfilment of requirements, according to the statutes, for creating national sections.
  • All attendants must pose the questions they see fit, concerning the candidate section and the fulfilment of requirements, to the International Executive Council and the interested section.

Conditions to Become an Associated Member of DCI

  • In a country in which no national section exists, an associated member can be named directly by the International Executive Council.
  • If an associated member is requested in a country where a national section already exists, the respective section must be consulted.
  • The candidate must present a membership request in which the candidate adheres to the principles of DCI.
  • The candidate must consult, if applicable, the corresponding national section.
  • The candidate requires the approval of the International Executive Council.
  • The candidate must comply with an annual work plan which is in coordination and compatible with inter-institutional actions.
  • The candidate must have a minimum working staff of five (5) people.
