Juvenile Justice Programme

With regards to our activities at the institutional level, the Juvenile Justice Programme Officer is the Convenor of the Sub-group on Juvenile Justice, which is a discussion and co-ordinating forum for international and local NGOs working in the field of juvenile justice. The Sub-group on Juvenile Justice is a thematic subgroup of the NGO Group for the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Concerning our work with UN bodies, we regularly participate in the sessions of the Committee on the Rights of the Child and we attend international events on juvenile justice.

The Juvenile Justice Programme of the DCI International Secretariat currently manages two projects. Firstly, we coordinate the work of Socio-legal Defence Centres in seven countries, namely Albania , Colombia , Bolivia , Ghana , Macedonia , Sri Lanka and Uganda . Secondly, we direct a Regional Juvenile Justice Programme in Latin America . This project has the aim of promoting alternative measures to the deprivation of liberty in Argentina , Bolivia , Chile , Colombia , Costa Rica and Uruguay . Furthermore, the Juvenile Justice Programme is planning to re-launch the International Network on Juvenile Justice (INJJ). The INJJ facilitates the information exchange between 220 non-governmental organisations, academic institutions and individual experts active in the field of juvenile justice.
