| From 27 May to 14 June, the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) convenes its 22nd session in Geneva. Concerning children’s rights during the 22nd session, the HRC will hold interactive dialogues with its Special Procedures on torture, arbitrary detention, the sale of children, and will hear the presentation of reports from the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on violence against children.
The Council will hear reports from the Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children, the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, and the Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, among others.
During the session, Defence for Children International (DCI) will be organizing several side-events: access to justice for children in armed conflicts in the Middle East (7 June), and juvenile justice in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region (12 June). DCI is also co-organising, with the Graduate Institute of Geneva, a public event on Palestinian children in Israeli military detention centres (13 June). |
